Tim Dyer

Carp Garden Services is owned and operated by Tim Dyer, a well-known horticulturist in the Ottawa area. Tim grew up in the horticultural capital of the world, the United Kingdom, and tries to visit there as often as possible to keep up with ideas, trends and discoveries in this field.

Tim Dyer began his horticultural career working on a Christmas tree farm whilst maintaining an interest in horticulture on a hobby basis, too. Later, after relocating to Ontario, Tim ran an 8-acre field nursery and a greenhouse operation near Carleton Place, for 11 years. This operation involved growing at least one million tree seedlings, as well as many thousands of perennials, shrubs and annuals.

Tim then started Carp Garden Centre and Carp Garden Services in 2011, serving residents and businesses in the Carp, Kanata, Stittsville, West Ottawa, Dunrobin and surrounding areas. After some time, operating both the garden centre and the horticultural landscaping business became too time-consuming. The garden centre business was then handed over to Tori Renaud and Jonathan Merchand, who are expert horticulturists and worked at Whitehouse Perennials for several years. They also operate a landscaping and snow removal business in the Pakenham and Almonte area.

Since Tim has been operating solely the Garden Services business, this has allowed him to expand the business to include additional services, such as designing and making spring, summer, fall and winter planters on-site at clients homes, as well as installing hanging baskets.

In the fall, just as fall garden cleanups finish, Tim launches into his Christmas business, which he has operated since 2002. This involves wreath-making workshops, as well as custom Christmas decorations for homes, municipalities, institutions, restaurants, hotels, as well as both small and large businesses.  He also fulfils bulk wreath and other evergreen Christmas product orders for florists and businesses who order for client appreciation gifts. Many off-site workshops and demonstrations, as well as on-site team-building events and Christmas parties are also held.

Tim’s qualifications and other credentials include successfully completing many horticultural courses, along with presenting to students at the Algonquin College Horticultural Industries Programme. He also served, on a volunteer basis, as President of the Ottawa Chapter of Landscape Ontario (trade association) for two years, and served on their Board of Directors for several years before and after that. Tim also was a pivotal figure in initiating the concept of a botanical garden in Ottawa. Tim frequently presents to horticultural societies and other organisations.
